Default Problem with new festival event

Greetings,

I've discovered a problem with the new chefs (that I'm assuming will lead to quests) in Shing Jea Monastery. First, I present the guildwiki entry for the one I'm talking about:

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Imperial_Chef_Tian

Now, taking a closer look at the ingredients he requires for his desert, I see the item "Icy Lodestone". Something about this was tickling my brain, so I clicked the link on the wiki page for the lodestone:

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Icy_Lodestone

Lo and behold - I see what is the problem. This item that is required for a Factions/Canthan event is a drop out of PRE-SEARING PROPHESIES/ASCALON!!! Now, admittedly, my memory is spotty at best, but I don't remember this drop being anywhere else outside of pre-searing. If it is, then I believe that the wiki community would have noted it by now - they are usually good at that sort of thing.

Now, I'm all for the interaction of the chapters (makes it feel worth it to have bought all 3), but this is just too many levels of silly! I'm expected to delete one of my character slots and create a new character in Ascalon just to be able to complete a quest in Cantha? Considering the time I've put in my characters, I believe the correct response is "I don't think so!".

*sigh* Guess I just won't be participating in all this event has to offer. Maybe I'll just show up long enough to get my hat and forget the rest. In my opinion, if ANet can't take the event seriously enough to avoid this situation, then I can't take the event seriously enough to participate.

Anywho...

To those who will actually take the time out to do this, more power to you and (figuratively) my hat's off to you. As for me, I'll continue in my fruitless and more-or-less pointless effort in finding greens for myself.

Merry meet, merry met, merry meet again,

You can buy them from people. No reason to skip the entire event (except hat) because you can't spend a few hundred gold on an icy lodestone...
We do not know everything that is going to happen in the event, what the chefs give as a reward and what the req of each dist is (ie, does the dist need a certain amount of everything to be given to the chefs in order to please the pig in that dist?)

They did do something... odd. This is a canthan based event and "IF" it is req to give each chef 1 of each thing to get a Hat or something else what happens to people who only own Factions? or Factions+Nightfall? they can't get all the req items. Ah but wait, gold fixes everything :P buy them (Someone is going to say "But we have not enough gold for it!", well the stuff should not be more than a few hundred gold each, wich is easy enough to come across)

I'm betting the quests they add will give these as rewards in some form.

Wow... lol...

Isn't it possible that Icy Lodestones will drop in Cantha during this particular chef quest and for the duration of this event only... just like frozen ectos drop for two wintersday quests only?

Personally, I'm going to wait until the festival actually begins to see what actually happens before I get myself all worked up.

EDIT: I just checked out Imperial Chef Tian's list myself (Truffles, Ebon Spider Webs, Half-Eaten Blobs, Azure Remains and Icy Lodestones) and everything except Truffles drops in Tyria.

Imperial Chef Yan wants Iridescent Griffon Wings,Tangled Seeds, Fiery Crests, Smoking Remains. All but the Tangled Seeds can be found in Tyria.

Imperial Chef Chen is asking for Igneous Spider Legs, Ebon Spider Legs, Bonesnap Shells, Azure Crests, Unctuous Remains. Only Bonesnap Shells and Azure Crests have been found exclusively in Cantha.

Imperial Chef Reun's list includes Alpine Seeds, Guardian Moss, Celestial Essence and Dragon Root, and, to date, Alpine Seeds have only been found in Tyria.

And as far as I know, everything on Imperial Chef Jiong's list, Archaic Kappa Shells, Mantis Pincers, Kraken Eyes and Naga Hides drop in Cantha.

So... I'm very excited to see just where this is going to lead us.

I believe that is correct.

In any case they could add the components as drops for different creatures, maybe even ones unqiue to the new year event.

I have a perma-presear ranger that looks like he's going to sear after I farm up a large amount of these. I'd prefer to just trade them for other crafting items, so it's worth everyone's time. So I suggest people try farming the harder-to-get ones, like guardian mosses, then trade those for icy lodestones. You can count me in for that.

the issue i sorta have with the Icy Lodestones is IF it's only pre-sear, people will just make characters to farm for the elementals, go to sear, put it in storage, delete character, repeat.

somehow i don't like that form of farming >_o

and it's not entirely fair to people who don't have prophecies. I have it, so it's not like I'm complaining. I have an 8th sloth open if I wanted to use this technique, but I think it's sort of an exploit for people on the disadvantage.

Maybe there will be a collector of a kind, or quests that will have monsters drop them like for Wintersday. Or have the monsters randomly drop them, like the candy cane shards.

Meh, we'll see. I don't think ANet would make the gathering of the items that unfair.

(BTW, gold shouldn't be the answer to everything. People will jack up the prices and ruin the fun for new players who can't afford it)

I think it is a bit of a screwup (from anet? never :P) having a pre-searing Prophecies item required for a Canthan special event, but I doubt it'll affect hats. Remember the Christmas event - those who had the required items (cc shards) got extra gifts containing special event items, but everyone got a hat. Can't see why this would be any different, and Gwiki already has a gift bag (can't remember the name) listed as one of the CNY event items.

if they are, then wiki needs to be updated because it only says pre-sear =\

still, having a lot of the ingredients in tyria is kinna..weird?

The Icy Lodestones are available in the South Shiverpeaks from Siege Ice Golems. They are dropping these instead of their usual Stone Summit Badges.
